Tom,

Usually, with many combo's, the TV will shut down if the cassette
mechanism is not in the proper
stop and or eject mode. Check the cassette mechanism postion. See if
the loading motor is trying 
to turned on trying to reset the mechanism, if it is, then that's
probably what's causing the shutdown.

Powers up, good picture & sound for about 8 sec, then shutdown. No
smell, no
hot componets. I figure protection is kicking in. I don't have
schematic and
don't want to buy one. Cust says set is just out of warr and it looks
it.
Anyhelp would be appreciated........thanks
