[TV] Re: 50HP66

Terry , yes a bit hard to remove , because they are surface mount , if you pull too hard on , it will lift with the trace , so you're in trouble if it happens.
Well you know , about soldering , there is no trouble for me , as I was certified on soldering at Canadian Marconi for army, navy , aerospatiale , nasa , etc.
I have many tricks in my hat :)

I would suggest to other techs to remove them to use 2 soldering irons (one for each side of the caps) to melt the solder both side of the cap , then lift it gently . it should work good with any damage. Sure it help if you can get a hand from another tech or helper , cause holding 2 irons is quite difficult for only one person.
I WON'T use a heat gun to remove them , cause there are lots of surface mount resistors and all , around those caps, you may end by removing/displacing few other components doing that.
They are too close from caps.
Also to help desoldering those caps , a good trick is to add some solder on the 2 small legs of the cap , it will help when unsoldering it for the heat transfert and will accelerate your removing job. leave the solder there after cap is remove , it will be ready to receive your new cap (put normal caps in place , just bent the wires and cut excess wire before installing. watch to not exceed the pad configuration , it is very tiny there.
Put new cap on pads then heat the solder that was left after removing , should melt right away and solder your new cap wire. do that both sides. there is enough space under the shield for your new caps, don't worry.

I hope I explain it quite easily , if need more info ,email me .
