[TV] Re: LCD TV's

These day is no different that the old days,we are the same person ,just
using our knowledge in a different way for example: on this case I use my senses
to find the problem, the days are gone when we just to use the scope very
frequently, many times no S/M now,if we get an S/M,is very difficult to follow I
will say now these days we become Mechanic Electronic, in some ways I am glad
because sometimes we do not use too much troubleshooting time and many times
we have to guess what is cussing the problem, that is the reason I belong to
this list,we help each other .-
I already send this problem but here goes again.-Tito

Symptom:Tv POP and picture went out, replace Z board, picture was there but
very dark and I use the old technology technic, on the Y main sustain board
there are 2 big Heat Zinc, play the TV for about 20 minutes, and after that time
feel the temperature on those 2 Heat Zinc, one will be warm, like suppose to be
and the other will be cold, like is no working, talk to tech. ass. for LG, and I
was told to replace the Y main Sustain Board they also told me that the POP
is when that IC under the cold Heat Zinc went out,may open ,got this board
from DM,1-800-281-8860 for 154.99 free S/H. If I send the old one back, they pay
me $25.00,they will pay for the S/H on this old board,How about that, there
is another place (SJ),they want $ 179.00 plus S/H for this board if they have
it.-On my case with this TV,maybe I did not need the Z board, only the Y
main, but what happen was that when I was measuring voltages around the old Z
board I made a short blow it out.- The TV now works OK,in the future I will be
more careful around that Z board, the customer has no to pay for this
board, because this TV is mine, I took it as a trade in when I sold the customer a 50"
Panasonic Plasma.- I hope this report help somebody out there, help me a lot,I
expend many hours on this, but the next one will be fast diagnosis.-.-

Yes, I agree all of this, but new technology is the effort of other more
skillful electronic scientist's R&D result. If have thier explanations would
much easier than oneself to look at the physical equipment if-self. Now All
skills are hiden inside ICs, if no theory and ICs data can not understand them
with one-self's own effort. Some theory is going to add to the circuits that
working on the equipment. Use basiv knowledge to understand it is the most
basic way to work on it. Every TV repair job, if have original service manual
would be much easier to work on it. Although after fixed it, only one or two
small component is the problemparts, but huge labor already placed on it. Every
body need to be a Tv guy , who have to know basic electronics. One is the
exception. But new thing need more patience to learn and absorb the new circuit
design.

Guys - Never discount the value of basic electronic theory. I am a
electronic engineer that graduated from Worcester Tech. Have worked
47 years on surface ship sonar, but my background in electronics has
helped me fix numerous ( probably well over 200 ) electronic
devices. So basic theory plus experience (plus common sense) will
certainly produce great results. Good luck guys.
